Building Industry-Led Training Across North Carolina

Connecting regional college and industry partners to define the knowledge, skills, and abilities shaping advanced manufacturing careers.

What is BILT?

The Business & Industry Leadership Team (BILT) model brings educators and employers together to ensure programs align with workforce needs. By establishing regional BILTs, we’re scaling this proven approach to make it easier for colleges to access detailed information about knowledge, skills, and abilities for their programs.

Starting with the Industrial Maintenance Mechanic pathway, AdvanceNC is partnering with CORD to bring college-level initiatives to a regional scale. This collaboration provides AdvanceNC member institutions with proven curriculum resources, industry-validated KSAs, and shared professional development opportunities.

Why BILT Matters

As advanced manufacturing evolves, the gap between what industry needs and what education provides continues to widen. BILT bridges this gap by ensuring training programs are designed by the people who know the work best.

Faster Alignment

Regional collaboration means colleges don’t have to start from scratch. Share insights, curriculum, and KSAs across institutions.

Industry Ready

When employers define the KSAs, graduates enter the workforce with exactly the skills companies need – reducing training time and improving outcomes.

Stronger Partnerships

BILT creates lasting relationships between colleges and industry, fostering continuous improvement and ongoing collaboration.

Participating Colleges

The BILT initiative begins with a core group of North Carolina colleges committed to employer-driven program design.

FEATURED PATHWAY

Industrial Maintenance Mechanic

Our first pathway focuses on Industrial Maintenance Mechanics’ critical roles that keep manufacturing operations running smoothly. This program combines hands-on technical skills with problem-solving abilities employers need most.

“Our industry partners reviewed our KSAs in detail, helping us identify new priorities and refine what mattered most. That feedback—and the trust it built—has been priceless.”
